Magnetic Driven Pumps

Centrifugal pumps that use a sealed barrier (usually plastic) to isolate the pump's impeller from the motor.  Within the impeller are magnets that are used to transfer the rotating force from motor drive magnets.

Considerations unique to magnetic driven pumps

  • the magnets will attract iron and steel particles
  • the connection between pump and motor is not direct and may become lost if loads or starting torque is high.
  • the pump has close clearances within -- NOT desirable when handling abrasive solutions or "electroless plating solutions."
  • the pump does not have a drive shaft that requires packing or a mechanical seal

"Mag drive pumps" a popular choice because they are considered "seal-less" and typically stop running before any leakage would occur.  This is very desirable when using corrosive chemicals.  For may applications with flow rates under 60 GPM, that require a thermoplastic pump, they generally cost less and are easier to maintain than pumps with mechanical seals.  Mag drive pumps are available in large sizes that cover flow rates up to 3,000 GPM, for chemical and solvent services, for high temperature heat transfer oils to 800 F.

Thermoplastic Mag drive pump are usually constructed of polypropylene or Ryton however often could be constructed of PVDF (Kynar).  In the larger sizes, they are metal with a fluoropolymer (ETFE) lining.  The fluid would not come in contact with the metal - it is there for additional strength.

Metallic Mag drive pumps are used primarily for corrosive chemicals when seal failures  cannot be toleratedHigher in initial cost to purchase but often offer a  payback in long term maintenance costs.  Designs for chemical process and API 685 specifications.   Pumps for hot oils to 800F or 400F hot water Heat transfer circulation.  Go to this type of pump.

FT Group - Pumps for sever service

UC Series - Magnetic drive pumps match ANSI B73.1 dimensions and hydraulics. LG Group - Pumps for corrosive to sever service

MD Series - Pumps for mild corrosive chemicals design with uncoated barium ferrite driven impeller magnet, glass filled polypro head / impeller and Nitrile o-ring cover seal.  Most use titanium shaft and thrust washers.  Fluid temperature up to 150 F.  Details for models 1/200 to 1/8 HP.
SC Series - Pumps for semi corrosive chemicals designed with encapsulated driven impeller magnet, glass filled polypro head / impeller and Nitrile o-ring cover seal. Shaft and thrust washers are 99.5% pure alumina ceramic.   Fluid temperature up to 150 F.  Details for models 1/35 to 1/8 HP.

Dickow Metallic Magnetic Driven Pumps

Dickow Pumps are magnetic sealless centrifugal pumps for the chemical process industry.  Horizontal frame or close-coupled - or vertical inline process pumps.  For solvents, hydrocarbons, heat transfer solutions and other hazardous chemicals.  Single stage and multi stage pumps are constructed of steel, stainless steel or Hastelloy C - some are self priming.  Working pressures to 600 PSI, flows to 3000 GPM, heads to 2000 feet and temperatures to 800F.  Some models are constructed to meet API 685 standards.  Built like a Mercedes in Germany - Local pumps and parts in stock.  Details
